Unity Party Distances Itself from “JNB-JKK” Counter-Protest, Urges Calm

MONROVIA – The Unity Party has strongly disassociated itself from a planned counter-protest organized by a group calling itself the “Council of Patriots for JNB-JKK,” describing the event as unauthorized and unreflective of the Party’s leadership.

In a statement released on Monday, the Party clarified that it did not approve any so-called “Thanksgiving March” or protest in the name of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai or Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung.

It called on all partisans and supporters to refrain from participating in any such activities scheduled for July 17, 2025.

While reaffirming its respect for the constitutional rights to peaceful assembly and free expression, the Unity Party emphasized the need to prioritize national peace and stability over partisan interests.

“We must avoid actions that risk triggering violence and instead work collectively to move the country forward,” the statement noted.

The Party highlighted several gains under the Boakai administration, including improvements in national security, price stability, rural road access, anti-corruption measures, and efforts to restore Liberia’s international credibility.

It also underscored its continued commitment to governance reform and the delivery of essential public services, as articulated in its ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID).

Without naming individuals, the Party criticized some of the protest organizers, accusing them of staying silent during previous administrations when governance and accountability were in decline.

The Party warned that politically motivated demonstrations disguised as support could undermine ongoing progress and misrepresent the administration’s goals.
