Voinjama, Lofa County – Police in Lofa County have charged and remanded a 20-year-old man, identified as Massabua Johnson, for allegedly sodomizing a four-year-old boy in Tenebu, a community on the outskirts of Voinjama.
According to the Liberia National Police, preliminary investigations provided sufficient grounds to forward Johnson to court to face prosecution. The incident reportedly occurred on the night of Wednesday, August 13, 2025, during a dance in the town.
Reports indicate that the suspect had asked the child to buy him gari (farina). The minor later raised an alarm, prompting his parents to rush him to the Telewayon Hospital for medical treatment on Thursday, August 14.
While the accused admitted to sending the child on an errand, he denied committing the act, insisting that sodomy is uncommon in Lofa, a county known for its strong traditional values.
The case has sparked public outrage, with residents, including members of civil society organizations (CSOs), condemning the alleged crime and urging authorities to ensure that justice is served if the accused is found guilty.
Meanwhile, in a separate police matter in Margibi County, several individuals have been charged and jailed for allegedly assaulting a resident accused of stealing a chicken.
According to the Liberia National Police, investigations revealed that the assaulted man had legitimately purchased the chicken from another resident, who has since admitted to selling it to him.
Despite this, the victim was beaten by community members before the truth came to light.
The suspects are now awaiting trial, as police caution against mob justice and emphasize the importance of due process.
