LNP Rejects Koijee Claims, Defend Accountability Systems

NATIONAL NEWS

MONROVIA – The Liberia National Police (LNP) has dismissed allegations made by Jefferson T. Koijee as “misleading and unsubstantiated”, following a communication he reportedly sent to the United States Embassy in Monrovia.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the police said while citizens have the right to raise concerns, the claims presented omitted “critical facts” relating to ongoing investigations and existing accountability mechanisms within the force.

The LNP also pointed to what it described as a contradiction in the allegations, noting that Koijee has previously been sanctioned by the United States Government for actions including undermining democratic processes and abuse of public office.

It said this raised questions about the credibility of the claims.

Responding to accusations of institutional inaction, the police said all custodial deaths are subject to mandatory review, with cases referred for judicial consideration when necessary.

It added that allegations of misconduct are investigated by its Professional Standards Division, while use-of-force incidents are assessed under established legal frameworks.

The LNP further rejected claims of systemic torture, links to drug cartels, and politically motivated violence, describing them as unsupported and inconsistent with ongoing reforms.

The Liberia National Police reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law, protecting human rights, and maintaining public confidence through transparency and accountability.
