Luanda, Angola –  Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sara Beysolow-Nyanti, delivered a keynote address at the AU-EU Summit in Luanda, Angola, outlining Liberia’s priorities as a member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2026–2027 term.

In her speech, Minister Beysolow-Nyanti congratulated Angola on its 50th anniversary and expressed gratitude for the recent recognition of President William R. Tolbert’s contributions to Angola’s independence journey.

The Minister emphasized the often-overlooked challenges Africa faces in managing migration within the continent, noting that migration is frequently perceived as a burden borne solely by Western countries.

She called for holistic, equitable, and inclusive resource allocation to address migration, with a focus on job creation for African youth.

Minister Beysolow-Nyanti also welcomed initiatives such as the expansion of the European Investment Bank in Africa and highlighted the Global Gateway as a key framework for cooperation, economic growth, and resource mobilization.

On matters of global security, the Minister reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to counterterrorism, Security Council reform, and peacekeeping reform. She stressed the need to strengthen regional blocs, including those in West Africa, to address security challenges effectively.

Addressing the intersection of climate, natural resources, and conflict, Minister Beysolow-Nyanti noted that competition over resources has often driven instability in Africa.

She called for coordinated strategies to manage natural resources sustainably and prevent conflict.

On the sidelines of the summit, the Minister participated in a closed-door session with eight African Foreign Ministers and the Deputy Prime Minister of Slovenia, along with other EU dignitaries, to discuss strategies for peace and security in Africa.

She also engaged with AU, EU, and ECOWAS leaders to explore opportunities for deeper regional collaboration and an enhanced Africa-EU partnership.

Minister Beysolow-Nyanti was accompanied by Leon Talery, Assistant Minister for European Affairs, and Titus J. Williams, Research Analyst at the AU Desk, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
