MONROVIA – On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Mustapha Raji, president of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), held his regular media briefing at the LFA headquarters in Congo Town. The event, which gathers members of the sporting press, is part of ongoing efforts to keep the public informed about Liberia’s football governing body. This marked the second such engagement this year.

During the session, President Raji highlighted several significant achievements across various sectors of Liberian football. The most notable announcement was that, for the first time since his tenure began in 2018, the Liberian government has provided direct financial support to the senior national women’s team.

According to Raji, the government contributed $134,000 of the $172,000 needed for the team’s participation in international competitions and related expenses.

“We are very excited about this intervention for our senior women’s national team. This is the first government support since we took over in 2018,” he stated.

Raji also acknowledged last year’s government support of $75,000 for the Under-17 women’s team, adding, “The amount was not enough, but we appreciate it because the government has many priorities.”

Addressing reports of a Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) investigation into alleged corruption at the LFA, Raji welcomed the probe but noted that he had not yet received any formal communication from the LACC.

“I will be happy if the LACC can come to the Liberia Football Association to conduct a comprehensive audit into any allegations of corruption,” he said. “It would be prudent for the LACC to investigate activities ranging from the 2018 WAFU Beach Soccer tournament to how funds were managed.”

On infrastructure, Raji announced that the Ganta Sports Stadium is nearing completion and ready for dedication. He also revealed that groundwork has begun for the construction of an artificial turf at Tomah Seh Floyd Stadium in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.

This project is being undertaken as a public-private partnership (PPP) between the LFA and the Jungle Water Group of Investment. Raji emphasized that this initiative reflects the LFA’s ongoing commitment to improving football infrastructure nationwide and providing safer, high-quality playing environments for athletes.
